Safety Afloat

SUMMARY

Swimming, kayaking, or any aquatic activity will have potential hazards, even for advanced participants.

Lives can be saved with proper supervision and training; lives can be and have been lost by not following Safety Afloat practices.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Safety Afloat training is designed for all authorized boating activities.* Adult leaders supervising those activities have completed their Safety Afloat training within the previous two years.

Safe Swim Defense

SUMMARY 

Swimming, kayaking, or any aquatic activity will have potential hazards, even for advanced

participants. Lives can be saved by following the eight points of Safe Swim Defense.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Safe Swim Defense is the BSA’s required training for all swimming activities. Adult leaders supervising a swimming activity must have completed the training within the previous two years.

Where can we rent canoes?
Use the CAC reservation link for canoes at LSPR.

Where can we access a collection of life jackets?
Contact Lost Pines Scout Reservation. If that fails, email Lethe Burns. 

Can Cubs conduct boating as a pack or den?
“Cub Scout activities afloat are limited to council, district, pack, or den events that do not include moving water or float trips (expeditions).” See the most recent Safety Afloat.
