Troop 10

Exchange Club of Austin

Founded in 1920, Troop 10 has a history and scout pride. Although the troop has changed over the years, our commitment to supporting and developing community leaders has not. Currently, Troop 10 is comprised of a small group of boys who lead themselves, work on their scouting skills together, and create camping and adventure memories.
This troop is perfect for the scout who benefits from small group instruction. Our troop is welcoming and helpful. We encourage Scouts to branch into new skills and leadership. Everyone has a part to play to accomplish the group’s work. Older Scouts lead, guide, and interact with the younger scouts kindly. We are motivated to help other people, and our Scouts serve as Den Chiefs. We joke around, have fun, and support each other — we’re all friends in our troop.

We use the patrol method, and in patrols the Scouts hang out and cook and do activities together. Its a lot of fun. We go camping once a month, and recently went on a beach campout. Our SPL uses the Remind App to send out notifications about events, activities, and supplies. We are encouraging and kind. We support each other in focusing on advancement, yet we consider the fun to be the most important aspect of scouting.

Troop 256

Bannockburn Baptist Church

In our troop we accepting and not very serious (though they can be if we need to be). We get along together in a positive atmosphere. Our challenges have taught us to not have conflict. At Philmont we were getting tired and angry, but in our troop we didn’t start bickering. We worked harder, we set up faster, we kept encouraging each other. We grew stronger together. Our Scouts plan monthly campouts: whitewater rafting, gun shooting, hiking, cold weather stuff, we basically do everything. We are a leadership-focused troop wanting to develop the best scouts and leaders that we can. The Scouts planned a weeklong trip to Philmont. We decided what we wanted to do, how to get there, and where to camp rather than the adults deciding us for us. The adults only napped and used half the water to make coffee.

Troop 395

Shepherd Of The Hills Presbyterian Church

Our troop is Scout-led. The Scouts determine the meetings and develop the theme each campout. We do cooking competitions, backpacking trips, rock climbing, shooting campouts, and play games. When we camp the adults must stay in “Adultlandia,” and only the SPL may cross into that land to ask a question. We focus on skills and we play games that are skill-focused.

The Troop 395 Scout Experience is about having fun while developing skills that lay foundations for a lifetime of success. Sometimes things may seem a bit chaotic — it’s part of the boy-led learning experience. We believe boys learn best by doing & make every effort to allow them the freedom to succeed & fail as a unit.

Troop 395 was first established in 1972.
