Include recruitment events in a highly visible spot on your Unit’s website.

Pack 12 hosts 2 information sessions held a week apart to ensure people can attend one or another. Often they’re hosted at the elementary school or at the charter organziation’s facility. Make certain it’s a location that is recognizable or known. 

Info sessions include table displays throughout the room, a meet & greet gathering with question and answer session. There are activities to entertain the prospective Scouts: paper rocket launcher and a cubmobile on display. The Scouts wear their Class A uniform while assisting. A formal presentation includes the scouting aims and methods, unit information and history, a short video or slide how, a calendar overview, an overview of the cost, and further questions and answers. Then there is a call to action to register.

One of the posters includes a QR code that leads to a Google Form to capture sign-in information. All caregivers receiving information on the Cub Scouts and the Unit, Event calendar overview, and registration information with QR code. 

Yard Sighs at Schools. Placed at high traffic points for walking and driving traffic. The signs include cricitical information only in a large type. QR Code directs to a website with additional information. “JOIN CUB SCOUTS Boys & Girls. Date and Time. Circle C Community Center.”

School Flyers. Provide flyers for teacher distribution. Bundled in groups of 25-30 for easy distribution into teacher boxes. Include key dates if possible. Ask families if an office is willing to print them for the unit. Utilize QR codes for more information and registration. 

Meet the Teacher Night and Back to School Night. Ask the school or PTA if Unit can particiapte with a Cub Scout table at the school entrance. Ask scouts to particiapte in Class B’s to Meet the Teacher. Leaders manning table in Class A with literature to hand out. Display table near the entrance and exist with photos, patches, awards, etc. Distribute literature with key dates and registration info. 

Social Media Posts on Facebook and Nextdoor posted to groups: neighborhood groups, school groups, grade level groups, and create a Facebook Event. At this time Pack 12 does not used paid ads. 

If your HOA has a newsletter or HOA email blast ask them to include information about Cub Scouts. Also look at participating in neighborhood events: HOA Events, Movie Nights, Food Truck Nights.

Word of Mouth. Encourage families to invite neighbors and friends to Join Scouting Night.

Email and call past families who have asked about the scouting and invite them to a Pack or meeting activity. Pack 12 sends out information to families which have left over the past few years or who have attended any meeting as an interested family for teh past few years.

Open House Pack Meeting. First Pack meeting of the year is treated as an open house. Leaders take scout for event and the Commitee Chair or Cubmaster answers parent questions about scouting.

During the school year participate in Festivals & Events. Request fo rthe Unit to have a table to share information about Cub Scouts. In return, the unit provides services hours (to clean up after the event, etc). Ask Scouts to wear Class B’s to school events. Count the Scout efforts as student hours.

Pack 12 historcially has a Spring Join Scouting Night after Rank-up. They’ve also created summer activites as recruiting activities: recycled rainbugger regatta, bowling, indoor rock climbing, and Cubmobile derby.

Use Google Forms, Free QR Code Generator, Free Design Software, and the BSA Brand Center. The Council also provides yard signs and the district provides flyers.
