NRA Rifle Instructor Course- July 19-20 and 26-27

This 25 hour course completes all requirements to become an NRA Rifle Instructor. The training includes both classroom and range time.  Students will complete a basic instructor training (BIT), basics of rifle shooting and rifle instructor training. Students must complete all sections to become certified.  Find full information and registration here. 

NRA Shotgun Instructor Course -Aug 8-10 and Aug 17

This course is for training and certification of NRA Shotgun Instructors. It includes the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting and the NRA Shotgun Instructor Training.   All participants must have experience at shooting shotguns.  Find full information and registration here. 

Stop The Bleed - September 14

A bleeding injury can happen anywhere. Learn the skills to stop the bleed and save lives. Learn bleeding control training skills you will need in almost any emergency situation. This course offers training in basic bleeding control techniques such as direct pressure, wound packing and tourniquet application. Find full information and registration here. 

Powder Horn 2024 - September and October

At Texas Powder Horn, you “learn by doing” with expert Scouters and consultants who guide you first-hand through a sampling of amazing outdoor activities. Examples of programming in past years have included paddle boarding, rappelling, fly fishing, shooting sports, snorkeling, caving, sailboating, and so much more! Co-sponsored by Capitol Area and Longhorn Councils, Powder Horn is held over two weekends, September 20-22 and October 4-6, 2024. The location for the event is at Camp Tahuaya, near Belton. Both adults and youth participants (14-20 years old) and over are eligible to attend. Re-energize or re-start your unit with a wealth of new outdoor adventure ideas and resources – it’s “fun with a purpose!”  Find full information and registration here. 

Range Officer Safety Training - September 11

If you want to take your troop or crew shooting, you must have an NRA Range Safety Officer present at the range, in addition to an NRA Instructor. This 9 hour course consists of Range Safety Officer’s roles and responsibilities. Find full information and registration here. 

Wood Badge - November 1-3 and November 16-17

Wood Badge is an advanced national leadership course offered to adults in Scouting who have completed their basic leadership training. Wood Badge is for all registered adult leaders: age 18 or older, involved with Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, Exploring, District, Council, Territory, or at a National level. BALOO - November 22 - 23

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation Training is for all Cub Scout Leaders and parents. This training course covers the skills and resources needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. Completion of this training is required before a pack can go on a campout. This course is limited to a minimum of 6 and maximum of 25. Find full information and registration here. 

IOLS - November 22 - 23

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics (online), this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops to be considered “trained”.  Find full information and registration here. 

Wilderness First Aid - November 22 - 23

BSA Wilderness First Aid Basics is for back country camping where professional emergency care is more than 1 hour away. This course combines classroom lecture, skills practice, and realistic scenarios to teach assessment, basic and advanced first aid skills and decision making, extended care and transport. A current CPR/AED card along with the BSA-WFA is requested for all High Adventure Bases including Philmonth, Sea Base, Northern Tier, and Summit. Minimum required for the course: 6.
