Roundtable – Ice Cream Social

September 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

ICE CREAM SOCIAL THURSDAY EVENING AT ROUNDTABLE!

EVERY SCOUT TROOP SHOULD SEND AN ADULT LEADER AND A SCOUT TO ROUNDTABLE EARLY (AT 6 PM)
to plan Webelos Woods, which is already less than 2 months away.

  • ICE CREAM SOCIAL! Enjoy some homemade (and some store-bought) ice cream as you make new friends and catch with scouters you already know.
  • RETENTION STRATEGIES.  Billy Riggs will talk about ways to keep your scouts active in scouting and help ensure that Cubs make the transition to Scouts BSA successfully.
  • NATIONAL JAMBOREE REPORT. Betsy Shelton attended the National Jamboree last month with about 15,000 scouts, scouters, and staff and will give us an encouraging update on all that happened.

FLORIDA NATIONAL SEA BASE PRESENTATION – Michael Johnson, General Manager of Sea Base High Adventure Camp in the Florida Keys will “meet” with us live via Zoom to tell us about the wonderful opportunities for older scouts (not open to Cubs) to spend their summer camp sailing, scuba diving, etc.  However, you Cub Leaders will want to hear this in order to equip you to hype Scouting, look forward to your own future visit to Sea Base, and encourage your Cubs to continue their scouting journey all the way to Eagle.

CUB BREAKOUT – Jack McKinney, a Life Scout in Troop 61 will discuss (as a part of his Eagle Project) how to build a native bee habitat.  If time permits, cub leaders will also discuss all of the options available for Webelos Woods.

SCOUTS BSA BREAKOUT – Learn everything you need to know to make the most of your Webelos Woods experience.

WEBELOS WOODS IS LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AWAY!  Put it on your calendar now for Oct. 21!  Scouts BSA may arrive the night before to prepare a great welcome for the Webelos.

COMING OCTOBER 5: ROUNDTABLE TRAINING RALLY FOR ALL ADULT VOLUNTEER LEADERS! Please encourage all of your leaders to attend for position-specific training. Experienced scouters will be present to do training for den leaders, Scoutmasters, Treasurers, Committee Heads, etc. We’re also hosting leaders from Armadillo, Waterloo, and Sacred Springs Districts!

TREY LITTLE HAS DONE A GREAT JOB leading our Scouts BSA breakouts at Roundtable for as long as I can remember.  (Thanks for all your hard work, Trey!) He’s stepping down to focus on other things, which leaves that spot vacant in our Roundtable team.  If you are an experienced and knowledgeable Scouter and are interested in moderating these discussions (20 minutes during each monthly Roundtable meeting.), please let me know by emailing me at billy@billyriggs.com.

EXPERTS WILL BE ON HAND TO CHAT WITH YOU PRIVATELY AND ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT POPCORN SALES FOR 2023.

WE’RE IN SERIOUS NEED OF A FEW VOLUNTEER COMMISSIONERS. These are district-level positions, people who serve as liaisons between a few packs or troops and the district, attending the pack or troop meetings on occasion to observe, and then facilitating communication to and from them.  If you’re available to make a positive difference in this way for Thunderbird District, please email Scot Haskell here.

IF YOU’LL MAKE ROUNDTABLE A PRIORITY FOR THE ADULT LEADERS IN YOUR UNIT, I PLEDGE TO MAKE THEM FUN, USEFUL, AND ENCOURAGING!  See you this Thursday night, September 7, 7 PM, at Bethany Lutheran Church (beside Bowie High School) at the corner of Slaughter and Wolftrap.
